How do I receive my supports if approved?
Assistance can be provided through flexible financial
assistance models for the purpose for the purpose of providing social services to
individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Such social services are
intended to assist the individual and family to function in society on a level comparable
to individuals and families who do not have disabilities, and to prevent or reduce
inappropriate institutionalization. Forms of financial assistance may include the
following:
- Cash Subsidy
This method of providing financial assistance entails providing an individual and/or
family with a regular payment of a set amount of cash to defray the extra costs of living
with a disability.
- Voucher
This method of providing financial assistance is used to provide a controlled access to
specialized services. An individual and/or family is allocated so much of a service
through the vouchers, which are then given to the provider who is in turn paid by the
agency. Vouchers may also be utilized to arrange for such things as home adaptations,
medications, etc. with community merchants.
- Reimbursement
This method of providing financial assistance entails reimbursing an individual and/or
family for covered goods and services upon submission of their paid receipts. The
reimbursement may be for all or part of the costs of the covered goods or services.
