What kind of Supports can IFS provide?
The goal of Act 97-421 is to enhance the
opportunity for people with developmental disabilities and their families to live in their
own homes and communities and participate in community life by offering them the supports
they need to do so. Individuals and families must determine for themselves what those
needs are. The legislation ensures that the flexibility exists to meet those often unique
needs by defining a wide array of supports that may be offered. But even this list is not
complete. Because the needs of individuals and families are unique, it is unlikely that we
could list them all. The legislation *******es this issue in two ways. First, it allows
for the provision of financial assistance to individuals and families to meet unique
needs. Secondly, it clearly states that supports the Councils can provide may include, but
will not be limited to the following:
Dental and medical care that are not
otherwise covered
Respite Care
Recreation
Homemaker Services
Transportation
Personal assistant services
Home health services
Therapeutic and nursing services
Home and vehicle modifications
Equipment and supplies
Counseling services
Communication services
Crisis intervention
Specialized utility costs
Day care
Specialized diagnosis and evaluation
Specialized nutrition and clothing
Parent education and training
Service coordination
Vocational and employment supports
Self advocacy training
Financial assistance
